How To Make Doughnuts


Items Needed
  • 4 tbsp Shortening
  • 1 cup Sugar (powdered)
  • 2 Eggs (beaten)
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 2 tbsp Nutmeg powder
  • ¾ tbsp Salt
  • 4 cups Flour
  • 4 tbsp baking powder
  • Oil (for frying)
  • Mixing bowl
  • Pastry board/ flat surface
  • Doughnut cutter 
Method
  • Add the shortening and sugar in a mixing bowl and beat them to obtain a smooth paste.
  • Mix the beaten eggs to the paste.
  • Pour milk while stirring the paste continuously to avoid formation of any lumps.
  • Next, add nutmeg powder, salt, flour, and baking powder to the mixture.
  • Mix everything and knead it to make dough.
  • Dust a pastry board or any flat surface with flour.
  • Roll the dough on the board so that the thickness of the dough is about ¼ inch.
  • Take a doughnut cutter and cut the doughnuts into shape.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Fry the doughnuts till well done.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve hot.
Yeast Raised Doughnut 
Items Needed
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 8 cups Flour
  • 3 Egg yolks
  • 1 cup plain Potatoes (mashed)
  • ½ cup unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • 1 packet Yeast
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • ¼ cup warm Water
  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder
  • ½ tbsp Baking Soda
Method
  • Take milk in a bowl and add butter, salt, and sugar to it. Mix it thoroughly.
  • Add sugar and yeast in water and allow it to stand for 5 minutes.
  • Add the milk mixture to it.
  • Next, mix baking powder, baking soda, egg yolks, mashed potatoes, and flour with the milk. Beat to a make a smooth paste.
  • Add the remaining flour, stirring continuously. Knead to make the dough.
  • Grease a bowl and place the dough. Allow it to rise for two hours.
  • Dust flour on a board and make rolls out of the dough, ¼ inch thick.
  • Cut the rolls with a cutter. Cover and let it rise for an hour.
  • Fry the rolls till golden brown.
  • Sprinkle powdered sugar and serve hot or eat plain.
Tips
  • You can use glaze, sugar, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, or icing as doughnut finishes according to your taste and preference.  You can also serve your doughnuts with chocolate frosting.
  • You can store the doughnuts and have them later. To store doughnuts, have them completely cooled and store them in an airtight container or plastic storage bag.
